La formation initiale - Initial formation
La formation initiale est assurée dans chaque monastère par des sessions inter-noviciats entre les monastères de l’Ordre.
« La formation d’une Augustine a pour but de la mettre en recherche constante du Seigneur dans la prière et la communion fraternelle, de l’aider à être
de plus en plus, en Eglise, un vivant témoin du Christ dans sa miséricorde, en suivant la voie tracée par Saint Augustin ». (Constitutions
n°217)
"Apprenant à recevoir et à donner, comme Marie elle expérimentera que c’est en se livrant sans réserve à la volonté du Seigneur, dans le moment présent, qu’elle peut trouver son achèvement de femme consacrée, joyeuse et paisible. (Constitutions n° 239)
Cette formation comporte différentes étapes qui permettront à la candidate de s’imprégner progressivement des Constitutions de l’Ordre Canonial de la Miséricorde de Jésus, selon la spiritualité de Saint Augustin.
3 étapes marquent le cheminement :
- Le Postulat proprement dit (de 6 mois à 2 ans maximum),
- Le Noviciat (2 ans),
- La Période des voeux temporaires (de 3 à 9 ans maximum).
La formation initiale est une étape, et toute la vie les soeurs auront à grandir ensemble dans cette suite du Christ.
Après les vœux perpétuels, la formation permanente se poursuivra ainsi tout au long de la vie, tant sur les plans humain que doctrinal, biblique, patristique et liturgique.
Initial formation takes place in each Monastery and by inter-novitiate sessions between monasteries.
“The purpose in the formation of an Augustinian Sister is to lead her to seek the Lord constantly in prayer and in community with her sisters. It is to
help her as a member of the Church, to be more and more a living witness to Christ in his mercy, following the way outlined by St Augustine.” (Constitutions n°217)
“As she learns to receive and to give, she will experience like Mary, that it is in giving herself totally to the will of the Lord in the present moment, that she will find her fulfilment as a consecrated woman, one who is joyful and at peace.”
(Constitutions n° 239)
This formation involves various stages that enable the candidate to progressively immerse herself in the Constitutions of the Canonical Order of Augustinians of the Mercy of Jesus and the spirituality of St Augustine.
3 steps on the journey:
- The Postulancy: (6 months to a maximum of 2 years),
- The Novitiate: (2 years),
- The period of Temporary Profession: (3 to a maximum of 9 years).
Initial Formation is a first step, and the sisters will have to continue growing together in the following of Christ.
After ones Perpetual Profession, on-going formation continues throughout life, in human, doctrinal, biblical, patristic and liturgical areas.

Le postulat
Le postulat est l’étape de préparation au noviciat et de discernement de la vocation.
A travers une croissance en maturité humaine et chrétienne, cette étape doit permettre à la Postulante de connaître davantage le monastère qui l’accueille, son charisme et les personnes qui le composent. Elle pourra ainsi mieux discerner si elle est appelée à suivre le Christ dans la Vie Canoniale et dans ce Monastère.
Le noviciat
En vivant dans la communauté, la novice expérimente concrètement la vie fraternelle, la vie de prière personnelle et liturgique et le service de miséricorde.
Le noviciat est ainsi un temps d’approfondissement du discernement en vue du premier engagement.
La Période des voeux temporaires
La période des voeux temporaires est une période d’approfondissement et de recherche d’unité de vie vers les vœux perpétuels.
Elle doit permettre à la jeune professe de réaliser progressivement les exigences de son engagement et de s’enraciner dans la tradition vivante de l’Eglise et de l’Ordre.
The 3 steps
Postulancy
Postulancy is the step that prepares for the Novitiate and is a time for discerning ones vocation.
The postulant through growth in human and Christian maturity will discover more about the monastery that has welcomed her; its Charism and the Sisters in the community. This will help to give clarity to her sense of the call to follow Christ in the Canonical Life in this Monastery.
Noviciate
The novice, while living in the Monastery, acquires a concrete experience of community life, personal and liturgical prayer life and the service of mercy.
Thus the novitiate is a time for deepening discernment in view of the First Profession.
Temporary vows
The time of Temporary Vows is a period of deepening and searching for coherence in one’s life, in view of Perpetual Profession.
The Temporary Professed Sister should gradually realize the obligations her commitment places on her and become rooted in the living tradition of the Church and the Order.
